Are Words Truly Necessary? (Audio+Picture added)

I'm sure everyone (err... almost everyone) is familiar with the phrase: "A picture is worth a thousand words." If not, you are now--or will be soon.

It's based upon (from what I can gather) the idea that, at some times, words really don't add much to, so much as take away from, all that an image provides--or could provide.

Not just images, though--In addition to pictoral (s/p?) usage, I've had more than a couple people comment of my music, "hey, this is really good--but why don't you add some lyrics?"

...Before you continue, if you would, give this song a listen:

    song url = http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/song/Regret/1434605

Perchance. . . the song inspired some thought?

    Triggered a memory?

    Maybe not.

    I liked it.

    Moving on--

There're no words present in the song... but one--and perhaps it's just me--can still contemplate. . . can still entertain the thought of a sense of sadness, a torn individual behind the keys.

The song, in my opinion, bleeds emotion.

    As for yours?

    Side-note--relevant--but not entirely:

I've sort of an aspiration... actually, I should see if it's been done before,
but I'd like to create a wordless movie sometime in my life.
Not a silent film, by any means, and plenty full of communication...
but lacking any direct verbal dialog between the main characters.
Background "noise" conversations might be made use of,
but as for the main characters--
they would make their motives and thoughts known by other means.
Expressions, glances, implied emotions and thoughts.

Could it be done, I wonder?

    Would you watch it?

    Another quote I'm fond of:

"It is better to keep your mouth closed and
let people think you are a fool than to open
     it and remove all doubt.
    "
    --Mark Twain

In opening one's mouth--one not only crafts an opinion for themself, but also puts forth something might affect those who haven't yet formed their own opinion.

Observing a picture, for instance--one might find themself taking in certain aspects: muted colors, subtle expressions, conflicting visual points of interest--but the moment someone else makes mention of their thoughts on the picture, one's original scope of focus has been shifted.

One might immediately, and thoughtlessly, dismiss that secondary point of view as misguided and wrong, but .... as Aristotle pointed out, many years ago:

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be
able to entertain a thought without
     accepting it.
    "

To perform this second act, it is required that one still make a conscious effort to grasp the second point of view... all the while not having (perhaps) finished forming their first. Simply put--knowing of another opinion's existence inflicts one's ability to independently form their own.

    To an extent--ignorance -is- bliss.

Note, though, that it is quite worth pursuing the opinions of others, should you desire to shape your own. And in some instances (ie. that guy's a murderer, he raped five children a few years ago)--knowledge>ignorance, but when it comes to such things as art, food, theories, music, and ideas in general. . .take a chance, have some fun.

As a former professor used to say:
You don't know, what you don't know, you don't know.

--and I blogged on that idea already
    ...mayhaps I'll link to it. . .

Reads?

Well, if you HAVEN'T read any of my writing--you might
want to check this, or THIS,
or maybe this, possibly thiiiis,
or this, but you have to see this (f'reals). This one was juust added on 7/10/09, btw.

This and this, have the same name, but it was unintentional!
(and they're still both good?).
And... this one.

Lastly, this one!

I need to make use of these suggestions sometime, too.

Also, You might wanna watch the "List o' Music" series I started; but haven't had much time to attend to.

As announced here, I intend to post/embed a bunnnch of music that I like (which is A LOT), for those of you in need of something new to listen to.
The list was made of things on my hard drive, and I'll be attempting to find songs on the web to embed.

Here's to hoping it works out. For now, I've got:

#

But I do intend to expand from there. Check it out, if you'd like, and keep watch on this module for others to glance at, too.

Thanks for stopping by! -- Matt

Not mine, but good:

Worth a listen--definitely.
--(and legally free to dl)--

Give it a listen?
